Teddi’s OCD Advice to Parents

Teddi’s OCD Advice to Parents

OCD Advice written by the now college-aged child of our parent trainer and dedicated OCD advocate.

  1. Recognize that this is hard.

  2. OCD is discomfort with uncertainty - try to understand this.

  3. Celebrate the “wins” with true attention.

  4. Think about what you can do … really pay attention to that.

  5. When a child is in crisis - give them space…..let them breathe.

  6. Take things step by step…. slowly.  Don’t think about the whole picture.

  7. Talking through it - what’s the worst that could happen??

  8. Never show frustration.

  9. Separate your child from their OCD.

  10. TAKE NOTHING PERSONALLY!

  11. Have compassion - true compassion.
